I wonder what the story is with Thompsons, then. It mentions that it’s part of the business, which the family is getting out of, but it doesn’t seem to be part of what’s for sale.
I had always wondered why there was a sign advertising Cotton Ball at the entrance to Penrose Wharf, which is nowhere near the brewery. It’s because the Lynches own that building too.Confirmed for PortView Trade Centre. I guess they’re moving it to “right in the heart of Belfast” for the weekend, subject to planning permission.

Do you know where “the Old Linen Mill” is? I can’t find a venue of that name in Belfast. No shortage of old linen mills, mind.
For attendee voting, like with the old BotY competition, you need lots and lots votes so trends emerge. With that, your crappy vote won’t count for anything.
I’m really not in favour of doing a panel tasting at a festival. A vote by participants, sure, but a panel tasting means the panel lose out on festival time.
This is how we started: it was all done at the Franciscan Well Easter Fest in the early years. There weren’t many Beoir members in attendance last year, though. I guess Bruce’s September festival would be the more obvious choice.
With all due respect to the fine brewers of our proud nation, I’m least inclined to drink Irish at that event.
Gotcha. Getting people into a room judging beer is, I think, less of an issue. It’s getting the beers to them, and the timing.
So say we set a date for the judging. Are we asking breweries to send beer for that specific event, or are we collecting them for the whole year beforehand? Either you have beer sitting around getting old, or you’re only judging the beer available at one moment in time. Which is less worse?
