KeymasterThese started to appear when producers began shipping products which, at least theoretically, would be still on sale in May 2026 when the law was originally due to come into force. Now that that’s been moved to September 2028 (with a hope of total repeal and replacement with a single European standard) we might see them disappear again, or at least no new ones introduced. The requirement to include the calorie count is what makes it a particular annoyance, because it has to be done separately for each individual product — distributors can’t just get a big roll of stickers, like with Re-Turn.
The full spec is in SI 249/2023.
I heard, second-hand, that if this goes into force, Grand Cru might be able to get Duvel to comply, but smaller foreign producers won’t. My hope is that, since there’s vast non-compliance with the alcohol sales regulations we already have, that this one could be ignored too.

KeymasterThat’s the numbers locked in. See you all on Saturday!

KeymasterJust saw Liam saying he’s not actually going to be there, he just wrote the recipes for the new beers.
TheBeerNut
KeymasterIt’s non-ticketed. The pub doesn’t normally open until 5 so I guess they’re opening especially for this.

KeymasterI went along for a look yesterday evening. It’s a nice place with a good selection of beers including Scraggy Bay, Ambush and to current specials from Wicklow Wolf. It was busy with techie types, unsurprisingly, being right by Google’s offices.
TheBeerNut
KeymasterOpened yesterday, by the looks of things.

KeymasterI hope Dan Snaith is happy with them using his stage names. Did they run out of animals in their junior safari guide?

KeymasterYikes, though not hugely surprising. MC has been having problems all over, I’ve heard. Could be an ideal opportunity for Original 7 to buy back the brand, or even expand into the docklands brewery.

KeymasterOK, I’ll see about making arrangements with Rascals for the 6th and will start a new thread when that’s confirmed.
TheBeerNut
KeymasterAww, I liked the idea of Brickyard. It’s not that much further than Rascals. I’m not keen on Dudley’s, though. Rascals is probably the easiest option.
How does Saturday 6th December suit?

KeymasterHadn’t thought about it yet. Any suggestions for a venue?

KeymasterI would have no problem with that, and realistically I think the only way EBCU will survive is if the member organisations who want it to continue pay for it. No other members are willing to pay more, however.
TheBeerNut
KeymasterNo. I don’t think anyone in CAMRA is thinking that far ahead.
TheBeerNut
KeymasterNothing specific, only that things weren’t going well.
