Welcome to Irish Craft Brewer! This site has been created to be the new home on the web for people wanting to learn and share knowledge about craft brewing in Ireland. Whether you are just starting out or are already running a small brewery in your own home, we hope that you'll find this a useful resource, and contribute your own knowledge to the rest of the community.

This site began as an idea a couple of years ago when I wanted to create a site for beer aficionados in Ireland. Personal circumstances (basically no time!) meant that it was launched and taken down in short order, but the idea remained on the back burner. Step forward two years and I started brewing my own beer, finding that it was difficult to get a lot of "local" information. I stumbled along reading lots of information from UK and US sites until I realised that boards.ie already had a very helpful beer-making community. It was heartening to see that there were indeed a good number of people who have, in some cases for many years, been brewing away quite happily here. So, the idea of a beer aficionado’s website took a grip in my mind again, but this time, with a focus on the craft/home/hobby brewer.

Around the same time Séan Billings had set up IrishCraftBeer.com, a fledgling community of like-minded craft brewers that was really picking up momentum and becoming a great focal point for craft brewers in this country. Not wanting to dilute the community by just lashing up another site, I met with Séan (in the Porterhouse of course) and told him about my ideas. Of that meeting was born IrishCraftBrewer.com, a place where people like Séan, and you (and maybe even me!), can publish thoughts, experiences, experiments and basic knowledge, all promoting personal craft brewing, and indigenous commercial craft breweries.

A site like this will only ever be as good as the content it contains. Think of it as a magazine where you, the reader, is also the writer. When you register here, you can, on request, be made an author. You will be able to add articles, news or knowledge base items which, following a quick review by the editors, will be published for all to see. I would encourage you to please share your experiences! Just hit the Contact Us link on the left an say you have something to share.

The site is going to be split along two basic areas, the magazine (for want of a better word) and the community forum. I hope that the two will be tightly interlinked, so when you publish an article, the community can feed back and discuss in the forum. More sections will be added with time, so please pop in and check the news now and again to see what’s new.
