The Porterhouse to get a shiny new bottling line
Great news for craft beer in Ireland; our friends at The Porterhouse Brewing company, last featured in TheBeerNut’s article about our visit to their brewery for the launch of Hop Head, have announced that they will be venturing into the realm of bottled beer.
The decision to invest in a €350,000 Moravek bottling line represents a serious effort to enter the bottled beer market, which The Porterhouse has left to others for many years, preferring to sell their beer through their own chain of five pubs.
The Czech-made bottling system is expected to be on line and filling 2,500 bottles per hour in early 2009. This Triblok is designed to be versatile and can be used to bottle pasteurised product or unfiltered beer for bottle conditioning, depending on what the brewer decides is best.
In a move which will interest other Irish craft beer producers and those thinking of entering the business, Porterhouse managing director Oliver Hughes said that they are actively seeking other Irish breweries who wish to see their beers in bottles. Allowing other breweries to use spare bottling capacity on their equipment is bound to cause a change in the availability of Irish craft beer and will, hopefully result in an increase in market share for Irish made beer.
