Yeah - the basic grill insert type you buy in woodies and built the brick around it - shanes pic has a nice one with a chimney type thing that I imagine gives good shelter from the rain ?

Pity you are going down the route of using polycarbonate, worked with that stuff for years and it really is only good for sheds. If the rain can be ignored then why not build a frame with cross beams that you train hop vines to grow along.

ah nothings set in stone yet !! - I probably won't get around to it until next year anyway - and the way things went with my last build - it took 3 years and the design seemed to change every week !!

At the moment what I have is a raised 12 * 15 foot patio at the end corner of the garden - the back wall is @ 12 feet high - The way I see it is - if I stick up a Pergola and throw some of that polycarb on it I basically have an open plan shed anyway
to me it seems like it will make it a more useable area given our weather - we can fling the kids out in it on a rainy day !!!
I am thinking of doing it in such a way that I may be able to train/ grow some hops up the frame and across the rafters - like I said I'll give it a year of staring at it and daydreaming about it
I've just got the garden back to a state where is doesn't resemble a building site anymore - think I need to let things settle for a while before I start bringing out the tools again or it will be me who's banished to the back !!!

Spud, your bbq in the first post...
Where did you get the chimney? are they expensive? I had a quick look round but can only see them as part of an entire stone bbq unit.
Yours looks like you built the bit underneath yourself. Thats what id be looking to do .... wont be this year though.
