Not sure where to post this one...I have an idea for a smartphone app but I am not sure if I should develop it or not as I am not sure if there would be any interest. The idea is simliar to a library system for books. I hate labelling my bottles (can't stand the washing and removing etc.). At the moment I just have a large array of coloured caps and I try and have a unique colour for each batch. In my log book I just write beside the details the colour cap I used and there is a good reference to what the brew is. Moving into the 21st century I am thinking of the following:
Providing either an very durable RFID tag (or NFC) or, most likely, a clear (non removable) barcode label. Then each bottle gets a unique ID (similar to a library book). Once you have your recipe created (via the app) you can then assign items or bottles to that batch by scanning each label (again like a library system would with bibliographic details on a book). The recipe goes to the cloud and can be merged or "bettered" with similar recipes to create one "authority" record. At any stage you can scan a bottle and get all the information about it on your app: date brewed, date bottled, recipe, reviews etc. But, the best part is that the label can't be removed and is simply "checked in" once the brew is topped off! That way, label can be reassigned to your next batch and reused, forever!
Granted, I spend too much time around library systems but if the app was free and the labels were cheap? Has anyone any thoughts or am I the only freak for labels!
