"delboy":af2iqetf wrote: Surely some sort of tie up with the camra NI branch (in much the same way as beior will be working with the other EU organisations) would be preferable and would also prevent unnesecarry duplication.[/quote:af2iqetf]We are very committed to working with CAMRA NI. We have different remits, but our ultimate goals are broadly the same. I think there may have been a communication issue between us as Beoir has approached CAMRA NI to say hi, and my contacts in CAMRA say that NI branch has sent an official reply, but we never got it. We'll be getting back to them soon to re-establish contact, or maybe wait to the November festival to do it in person. The bottom line, I think, is that we're all on the same side.

I think everyone in Beoir is more or less on the same page, in that we want as much [i:2zq1mfxs]good[/i:2zq1mfxs] beer as possible. How we define good is always going to be a problem, so we may have a problem in terms of how we actually define our goals, but I think in spirit at least we're all together. This may pose a slight problem in terms of allocation of resources at some point, but as long as we don't get anyone being silly about it (and in the discussions so far we haven't), and as long as we have leadership who genuinely enjoy good beer, regardless of source (and I don't think there's any doubt about that!) then we can sort any problems as we get to them.

Ultimately we'll do what the membership want, not what the constitution tells us, and if those two things clash then we'll just have to change the constitution.

Unless that's hopelessly idealistic...

I hate being the devils advocate but when it comes to comittees and organisations you often find the founding principles become set it stone, who would have realised 37 years later CAMRA would still be ploughing the exact same outdated furrow.

Good stuff about a possible tie up with camra up here, hopefully you'll energise and shake things up a bit <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D -->

I've said my peice about quality beer/ingredients more than once so i'll shut up now.

You are right about committees often lacking flexibility alright, so I guess once beoir grows a bit more that [i:2g87nd4j]might[/i:2g87nd4j], perhaps, become a worry. Maybe we should agree to revisit the constitution in a year or so, once the organisation is up and running, and see if people are still happy with definitions/wordings etc? It'll be easier to talk about when everything isn't happening all at once, and I don't think there's any great danger of being derailed for at least the first few years (while the original members are still in the majority, I mean).
