As you may or may not know, Limerick is European City Of Culture for 2014, Yay.
One of the 'Pillars' That this is built on, Is Food and Craft, Of course, They Only figured this out about a week ago. But when I found out about this I thought, Gee, Wouldn't it be cool if I set up a beer festival In Limerick For this.
Which Led to a few problems, The first being That I don't know how to run a beer festival, and the Second Being I don't really Know anyone who Could Help me, and the third being that the deadline for proposals is In a week.
So I asked a friend, And he pointed me in the Direction Of Beoir, and said to throw it out there. So I'm asking you guys, Is there anyone who Could help me organise up an Event like this, What do I need to do for it, Etc Etc.
I can vouch for Alex, he is passionate in everything he does and has also undersold his pedigree. He is a former winner of the Rotary Club Irish Young Chef of the Year and competed in the international competition. His family run the famed Green Apron Cookery School and are the producers of the award winning green apron jams and chutneys. I don't have the knowledge to assist him but I know that people on this site have theknowledge and contacts to asist. I also think that if this gets off the ground it would be great for Beoir to get on board.
Alex, the very best of luck with this. It would be great to see such and event in Limerick.
A word of caution. I tried to organise a beer festival in Limerick last year. I contacted all of the micros in Ireland, the lack of response was deafening. Trouble Brewing and Fran Well were two notable exceptions.
A beer festival is a very hard thing to organise and an absolute impossibility in your time frame. especially with a bank holiday in the way.
Can I suggest you contact Seamus O'Hara and Bruce Mansour, they do a few beer festivals each year (RDS, Docklands, Doolin). It might be something they have an interest in but I doubt it's possible in a week.
I will PM you their email addresses anyway.
