Is that a bad thing???!!!!!![/quote:4v27tvdd]

Not at all, it just means that there's very little extra to be gained by going over for that particular weekend. Sure you can go over any weekend.

Whereas Belfast only has it's festival once a year

Do you think it's worth going to then? Especially for a newbie. I like Bruges anyway but last few times I was there I didn't pay much attention to the beer. I know, I know......

(I probably should have posted this as a new subject.
Don't give me another yellow card!) [/quote:zsvtd1fx]

definately worth going as the beer samples cost just €1 (a very fair price ) so you can try a lot of different styles for not much money at all. Worked for me last year anyway...I found out very cheaply that I don't like gueuze at all

Which ones did you have?

I remember MrsBeerNut coming back from Brussels once, before I'd ever been, raving about this absolutely disgusting beer they had there, and later daring me to try some in Belgo (blessed be its memory). These days it's really not a good idea to stand between her and a bottle of Cantillon.

Go on, give it another go next time you're in Belgium -- one of the lighter ones like Mort Subite or Bellevue. One of my favourites is the sweet one, Lambic Doux, made mainly for the A La Bécasse pub in Brussels. Yum yum yum.

I can't remember to be honest. Most of the beers at the festival I hadn't heard of before which in a way helped because if I knew them I'd have played it safe and bought them instead of trying different stuff

That's a fair point although I can see the benefit of having them all together in the one spot for sampling what you like. Also I assume there will be brewers from all over Belgium at it?

Thanks everyone for your inputs. I'll def go to one of them.

Were there even more breweries at the Bruges festival? Unfortunately, Belfast doesn't yet have any pubs stocking several dozen cask ales and ciders. So Belfast for me
