Independent Irish Beer Logo 6 years 9 months ago #1

The ICBI[/url:3s5baari] have released their own logo to show that their beers are independent Irish.

The Beer Ireland logo is the other logo out there at the minute. For what it's worth I think it looks like they put a lot more effort in but I'll see how the ICBI one looks on a bottle label.

Just to clarify (there's a lot of noise on Twitter), the ICBI logo can be used by a brewer who is brewing on their own kit and satisfies the Revenue criteria for the rebate. The Beer Ireland logo can be used by any brewer who is a member of Beer Ireland, including contract brewers.

Having been out of the loop for some time, can someone tell me- what's the difference between the two organisations? Can breweries (if they meet the criteria) be members of both?

Yes, absolutely they can be members of both.

ICBI, in one form or another has been working away in the background. It's only in the last year or so that we are actively seeking new members (now that we have a structured organisation), and most new members would already be members of Beer Ireland. It is not a them or us scenario by any means.

To clarify the ICBI logo (there will be a launch and press release soon to explain it better) to use the logo you do not have to be an ICBI member, just fit the criteria.
Provenance was a big part of the discussion when setting out the criteria, so on that side the beer that carries the logo must be brewed in your own brewery (ie not contracted) and packaged on the island of Ireland.

Just to add, there are currently already members in both camps (I know Black Donkey is for one).
