I'm spending a night in Athlone soon. Can anyone recommend pubs with a decent selection of craft beer

The Malt House? Never been but it hosts the Athlone Beer Club so probably worth a shot.

Maguires and The Malt House (in that order) are definitely the best. Great selection in both. Maguires is quite small and fairly quiet, The Malt House has a good combination of great beer and a good buzz at the weekends.

The Shack has a small craft selection, but is one of the best pubs around. It's a bit out of town though, so would be good for starting the evening off perhaps, or for a few quiet ones on a Sunday.

Unfortunately not much other craft beer around, but there are some other good pubs. Not much in the way of late bars though - avoid the Piano Bar at all costs!!

John, Aaron

Thanks for that, MaGuires and the Malthouse it is.
By the way, are there any beer clubs in the north west?

Sean's had a single tap (Galway Hooker) and a few bottles (Carlow, IIRC) last time I was in. Not a great selection, but worth the visit as the oldest pub in Ireland (or Europe).

Whereabouts you based? We have a small group just starting up in Derry.
