Not really surprising- I was in Westport last year and couldn't find their beers in any pub. Mescan was all over the place though (and Reel Deel)

Maybe not the right thread but rumours on Boards that Carrig have bought Brú.

I wonder why? Carrigs beers are better. I'm guessing it's for "route to market"- Bru became Spar's discount branded beer (before Arthurstown). Or maybe they want the pubs...

I sometimes got the feeling from various sources that Brú were always interested in cashing in at some stage. Although, obviously couldnt' say whether they have made any return on their investment.

Wonder if both breweries will be kept running.

Nope. Carrig will close and Carrig beers will be brewed at Brú, though with the same head brewer: I'm guessing nothing much will change there.

As I understand it, Brú wanted out of the pubs racket. Carrig is coming in to run the remaining estate and gets the advantage of a larger production facility.

So a co-located brewery like Third Cirle/Stone Barrel/Crafty Bear/Pleasure Dome...

Like Third Circle/Stone Barrel, yes. Crafty Bear and Pleasuredome are third-party client brewers so not quite the same model.

Boghopper have announced their closure. One last brew going on this weekend. New tenants moving in after that.
