I started with this one from The Homebrew Company and then when I wanted to go to full size extract batches bought a chiller and boiler. It'll be the same with pretty much any of the starter sets from the homebrew suppliers. Going to extract just means you need something to boil in and a way of chilling the boiled wort to pitching temperature.

You can do stovetop extract brewing with just a stockpot, making either small batches or high-gravity wort and topping up to the full size with cold water. The latter is a nuisance, though, and I got sick of it fairly quickly.
