Re: Putting a batch of wine through my beer kit - Bad idea?

Thanks for the replies, a few more questions... :) I'm looking at Vinotainers here, how do people find these as an alternative to using bottles? Also I see most wine equipment kits come with siphons. Is there any reason for using this for wine over the bottling stick I use for beer? The free 33L fer...

Putting a batch of wine through my beer kit - Bad idea?

Hi, I've been considering brewing a batch of wine and have heard conflicting reports about having to use separate equipment. I was going to use one of the 5-day kits and that's all the wine we'd need for a good few months. We're on a tight enough budget, considering the wine will only be in the kit ...

Re: Galway meet-up? Any interest at all?

A Galway newbie here! Only got my starter kit about a month ago from HBW. Most of you on Beoir seem to be fairly advanced - would be up for meeting and sampling some homebrews but not sure if my amateur attempts are ready for public consumption yet! So far have; - Brewed, Bottled and Drank: Coopers ...

Re: Ambient temps ok for 'lager'?

Most people I know (unlike you bunch of rebels and reprobates) either drink Guinness or the blandest of bland lagers. (A few lads like weissbiers, but I don't so nyaah to them :P ) I reckon it'd be impossible for me to do a decent Guinness clone with my level of (in)experience and lack of kegging e...

Re: Carbonation drops = flat beer

Thanks - learn a bit more every day! It's showing 16-18 on the stick-on thermometer now but still bubbling through the air lock so I'll let it be without the brew belt.

Re: Carbonation drops = flat beer

I've since called out to the good people at Home Brew West (great new shop there by the way). We discussed it and reckon the bottles aren't being stored in a warm enough place so carbonation will be slow. I've moved them into a press in the kitchen which should be warmer and will give them another c...

Re: Carbonation drops = flat beer

Thanks all for the replies. I'm using 500ml PET Ox-Bar bottles. The batch currently 1 week into bottling got tossed around after 2 days with the hope that might work. The caps were put on tight, the sides of the bottles are still soft. I think I might be introducing problems in my bottle sanitising ...

I was hoping to bottle my Coopers all-malt Irish Stout kit tomorrow so any tips welcome before I mess up another batch!

Carbonation drops = flat beer

Hi all, Newbie here. I've been drinking my first batch (Coopers Canadian Blonde). I gave it 10days in the fermenter, 2-3weeks in the bottles. Didn't taste too good, sweet cidery taste to it. Drinkable though. Out of 40 bottles, 2 had carbonated and also tasted well. I used carbonation drops, s...

Dented can - should it be alright?

I just got delivery of a fairly badly dented can for my next brew - should this be of concern or will it be grand? http://omg.wthax.org/IMG_0197_resize_1.jpg http://omg.wthax.org/IMG_0198_resize_2.jpg http://omg.wthax.org/IMG_0196_resize_1.jpg http://omg.wthax.org/IMG_0199_resize_3.jpg From what I h...

Re: New Finlandia Beer Kits

Mine had English instructions tucked away in the lid with the yeast behind a disk of white cardboard Did you find the yeast? Will I did but that little instruction booklet was all Finnish, there was no English on the packaging either. It's no biggy but would have been tricky if it was my first brew!

Re: New Finlandia Beer Kits

Joe sorted, shipped today. Brewed this up yesterday evening, it wasn't showing any sign of life for a few hours but fermenting away this morning. :) It's only my second batch and worth noting there are no English instructions with the kit. I assume it's the same basic standard method with all kits ...

Recommend a kit like these Galway Ales?

Hey, My first kit is in the fermenter and I'm looking at options for my next one. Can anyone recommend a kit that would give a similar result to Galway Hooker or Bay Ale (brewed in Oslo Bar, Galway)? Or any pale ale you'd recommend and what you'd add to it. My first batch is the kit that came with t...
