The Olde Thatch

Formerly Campions, the pub on Malahide Road, opposite Fingal Cemetary, has re-opened as The Olde Thatch. It's essentially three (4?) rooms and a snug built around a central bar. Seems less "boxy and warehousy" than the old Campions and is going for a country pub feel. Usual pub-grub is a bit on the ...

Re: Anyone recommend bars in Philadelphia?

Dammit, only saw this now. So it might be in time for a return trip?

The Evil Genius Beer Company is a decent sized pub/brewhouse on North Front Street, with a good variety (20+) of interesting beers brewed on the premises. Decent food and entertainment too. Owned by two brothers from Dublin.

Re: Dundalk Bay Brewery?

How did you get Carlsberg from that? I was unfairly blaming Untappd. In my defence, there was alcohol involved... The fault was actually Google's. Or Carlsberg's, depending on how you look at it. There was a beermat advertising "Brewmaster's Irish Red Ale", I googled it on my phone, and didn't read...

Dundalk Bay Brewery?

A new one on me. Untappd suggests its Carlsberg. Website here: https://dundalkbaybrewery.com/ but very little corporate info on there. Their brewmaster-beer.com email address doesn't have an associated website. Their beer was on sale in the Olde Thatch (the re-opened Campions on the Malahide Road) l...

Re: Nothing beer related, it's more important!

I definitely support the call for a 1.5m passing distance for cycles rule. I'd also love to see the same courtesy extended to pedestrians by cyclists, though. Red lights at pedestrian crossings apply to cyclists as much as cars. Why someone thinks it's not ok to go through a red light in their car, ...

Re: Who makes Cute Hoor

Ah, came across this in The Summit in Howth today. Untappd wasn't helpful - it had the beer, but nothing whatsoever on the brewery.

Poor form, pretending to be someone you're not.

Re: Rising Road Pale Ale

Yep, saw that. I don't get it - for either bar, but especially Bison. People actively asking them to stock craft beer (preferably Irish), and they go... "Eh.. nah. We're whiskey specialists. And BBQ, obviously." You don't have to "specialise" in beer to get one or two craft taps (or even bottles) in...

Re: Rising Road Pale Ale

Apparently Rising Road will also be available in The Bridge 1859 - what used to be Bellamys, in Ballsbridge. It's been bought by Seán O'Brien, Jamie Heaslip and the Kearney brothers. They're also trumpeting "Tankova", which appears to be Pilsner Urquell on cask. Opening tomorrow, so I may pop in if ...

Re: "New" craft pub in Raheny

What's the problem with the name?! The phrase "Cock and Bull" gets nearly 700,000 Google search results. Is it the inclusion of the word "cock"? Do they get woken in Raheny by "male hens"?

Oh good. I thought I was going mad there for a minute.
Well even with the merged threads you may still be going mad...

(Sorry, I did search for 'Cock and Bull' before posting a new thread, but only got results relating to the Bull and Castle.)

Craft beer in new Raheny venue!

The Station House at the crossroads in Raheny village has been bought by the owners of the Cock and Bull in Coolock village. They're closed for refurbishment at the moment, and looking for suggestions for what beers to carry. Please take a moment to make a few (realistic!) suggestions here: https://...

Think it's probably best at this stage to wait until next year. When is planting season for hops?

Qs, hadn't heard about Mottly Brew, will definitely pay it a visit!

Re: Pale ale pricing in Dublin pubs

Why does it only mention craft beer? I'm sure the same price differences occur between macro beers bought in 'typical Dublin city centre pub' and 'Temple Bar tourist trap pub', too?

Cascade rhizome in Dublin?

Hey a friend/neighbour has got himself an allotment, and offered me space to grow hops in return for some beer. This sounds eminently more sensible than me trying to get an allotment and grow lots of stuff on it when I could be at home drinking or brewing beer... So - anyone in Dublin got a Cascade ...
