TOPIC: Changes to Beoir Directory editing access

Changes to Beoir Directory editing access 6 years 6 months ago #1

As we've been sanding out the rough bits following the migration of the website, we've made some changes to how editing of the Beoir Directory works, now we have a new version. Up till now, any registered user of the site could add a new entry. After this was published and approved, only they and the site admins could edit it. While this opened it up to a degree, in an attempt to make is as crowd-sourced as we originally wanted, it did mean it was in some ways not as open as we'd have liked (only the original contributor or admins could edit) while at the same time being open to abuse (anyone could register and shove something in, adding to admin overhead).

With the update, we've changed the rules so that everyone can read entries as before, but only (paid) Beoir Members can add new entries. In addition, they can now also edit [b:1l83diu1]any existing entry[/b:1l83diu1], meaning that updates to details like beer lists will be much more dynamic, allowing the Directory and the BeoirFinder App to be as up to date as possible. Opening up full editing rights to all Beoir Members, while not allowing non-members to add or edit might seem like a double-edged sword, butwe think this hits a balance of avoiding misuse, while providing as much safe flexibility as we can. We hope the Beoir membership will use this to crowd-source good beer locations for their regions.

So, if you are not a member, that's one more benefit to joining <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->

[i:1l83diu1]PS. We'll post updated instructions to replace the old Populating the Beoir Directory thread. Non members can always flag new venues and a conscientious member could add it.[/i:1l83diu1]

Assuming you are logged in on the front page of Beoir.org (and not just the forum part), if you are looking at a list of entries or an individual entry, you [i:3pv8w95w]should [/i:3pv8w95w]see an "Edit Entry" button beside the entry title.

If you don't, let us know! <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->

Sorted.

Should we not make "nightclub" or "late bar" one of the amenities though?

What are the criteria again? (I think I might have asked recently)

Is it the Revenue's definition of beer micro brewed in Ireland?

Not really needed if you fill in the opening hours.
