I don't think that Protestants in the north call themselves British because of this type of belief, although it is a wide help belief, and one that a lot of people would agree with. It goes way back in their own background, and is the way that they want to be percieved, rather than being influenced by the way others see them.

Lads the original question was actually about Irish Unionists, not Northern Protestants.

Like Conor Cruise O'Brien, Arthur Guinness was an Irish Unionist. The original author of that article seems to consider him less Irish because of it. This is simply not the case.
